1. Information We Collect

When you use bestfreecaloriecounter.com ("the Service", "we", "us", or "our"), we collect minimal information necessary to deliver accurate nutritional and metabolic calculations:

  • Biometric Inputs: When calculating BMR, TDEE, or Body Fat percentage, you may input age, biological sex, height, weight, neck/waist/hip circumferences, and activity multiplier. This data is computed client-side.
  • Food & Meal Logs: Any search queries, custom foods, gram weights, and daily diary entries you create.
  • Optional Account Credentials: If you choose to sign in, we store your email address, display name, and selected primary fitness goal.
  • Technical Logs: Non-personally identifiable diagnostic information such as browser type, operating system, and timestamp of access for error tracking and site reliability.

2. How We Use Your Information

We utilize the collected information strictly for:

  • Calculating your basal metabolic rate, total daily energy expenditure, and macronutrient targets.
  • Maintaining your daily food diary, streak counters, and weight goal simulations.
  • Remembering your UI theme preference (Dark Mode / Light Mode) and measurement unit system (Metric / Imperial).
  • Improving platform speed, database accuracy, and AI vision model performance.

3. AI Food Scanner & Image Processing

When you take a photo or upload a meal image to the Food Calories Scanner:

  • The image is processed strictly for the purpose of identifying food ingredients, bounding boxes, and portion volume estimations.
  • Images are never used to train biometric facial recognition systems or linked to personal profiles.
  • No image data is retained after the visual parsing session finishes.

4. Cookies & Local Storage

We use localStorage and lightweight session cookies to maintain your state across sessions without requiring server round-trips:

  • theme: Remembers your dark/light interface preference.
  • cc_daily_diary: Stores your logged foods, macro totals, and daily timestamps.
  • cc_streak_data: Records your consecutive daily logging streaks.
  • cc_auth_user: Stores your authenticated session when "Remember me" is checked.

5. User Rights (GDPR & CCPA / CPRA)

Depending on your location (such as the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or State of California), you have fundamental rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to Access: You can inspect all data stored locally on your device in your browser storage tools at any time.
  • Right to Deletion: You can instantly purge all stored records by clearing browser data or sending a deletion request.
  • Right to Opt-Out: We do not sell or share personal information with third parties for behavioral advertising.

6. Security

We use industry-standard HTTPS encryption (TLS 1.3) across the entire platform. Data in transit is protected against interception, tampering, and eavesdropping.
